Artist Statement

Since childhood, I have been deeply invested in the creative process. Always surrounded by nature, I was in search of discarded materials to immerse in my creativity. Some of my favourite materials were broken jewellery, old stationary, and fabric. This foundation in exploratory play, magic and wonder of all things nature; has led me to countless creative adventures. Today I draw on these nostalgic memories combined with my continued love of exploration. My focus is colourful florals, nature, powerful women and the occasional abstract. It is my hope that my art brings joy and a sense of magic into the viewers’ lives.

Artist Bio

My name is Krista Lee Bawden. Born In Loretteville, Quebec in 1974. Growing up in Calgary I was influenced by the mountain landscape, neighbourhood adventures and our family farm in Saskatchewan. Today I work primarily in acrylic, watercolour, gouache and collage. My influences are Frida Kahlo, Yayoi Kusama, Gustuv Klimt and Marimekko. In 2022 I started to attend art shows such as “Expresstival” and the “under100show” in Calgary. I currently work and live on a farm in Saskatchewan. I am constantly inspired by the landscape of the Qu’appelle valley and the prairie wildflowers.
