When your goal is to capture scenes that people will only see in a photograph, it is
generally an adventure. I scouted this area the afternoon before this sunrise. What
I didn’t take into consideration was that when I returned the next morning, it was
going to be one hour before daybreak. Getting to my vantage point meant a 30-
minute walk through the forest during the fall when bears are foraging for food
before they hibernate. Once clear of the forest, a trek across damp rock formations
while carrying all my gear made for a very interesting pre-dawn journey.
