A favorite Fall hike for many, the path to the top of “The Crack” in Killarney
Provincial Park leads to stunning views of the white quartzite mountains of the La
Cloche range and the crystal clear lakes that they contain. The oaks, aspen and
maples blaze through the landscape with breath-taking beauty.
Artist Statement/Bio
I bought my first SLR in 1973 and have worked in Photography, Lithography, and Serigraphy
for over 40 years. I began working with digital imaging equipment professionally in 1979,
and have seen this evolve from an elite, highly specialized field to one that is available to
most everyone.
I choose my subject matter for their proximity and familiarity and with this familiarity, they
become peripheral to the our daily visual experiances. I am interested in how memory and
familiarity effect perception. Most of these scenes have been photographed, drawn, and painted
by many others. My own perception is influenced by some of these images as well as by my
experiences and memories.
I do not choose these images from dozens of possible photographs. Instead, I go to the chosen
sites and take a series of panning shots, photographing the scene in multiple sets of
sections. These shots are then pieced together in Photoshop, not like tiles, but like a jigsaw
puzzle, with small sections of each shot assembled to form the image that best matches my
memory of the place. The resulting image is printed on a 44” Ultrachrome printer on various
papers to achieve the final prints.
