I am intrigued by natural light in the sky and in the landscape, light that is influenced by time, weather
and season. It moves and changes from second to second creating magical and unique beauty.
I live in a marvelous city. I rejoice in its vibrancy while refreshing my heart and mind in the powerful
grandeur of the natural spaces both within and beyond its borders. I relish the calm nature can give, and
the awe I feel in the magical glimpses of the land keep me grounded and inspired.”
I paint in oil on canvasses I have stretched and prepared. My source images are taken from photographs
I have taken on travels, and around my home. I also paint from memory, selecting colours that interest
me in both tone and shade, and in relation to each other. I love to blend colours, to let them flow into
each other, building the layers to provide depth.
My painting aim to inspire and to soothe the eye, providing calm and respite from the demands of life,
and also perhaps to inspire.
On Fire reminds us of the heat and light of fire. While devastating fire is also mesmerizing and awe
inspiring. It refreshes and cleanses, warms, and comforts us.
Ablaze captures the eye with the intense sunset reflecting in the clouds, the water and rocks, appearing
in some ways to be setting them on fire.
Where There’s Hope was inspired by a photo taken as the sun set in Hope, BC. I made the clouds and
mountains softer and enhanced the pinks and purples. The title of the painting is a reference to its locale
and to a thought of finding inspiration in the colours and shapes of the sky and land.
